Transition Readiness, Employment & Engagement (TREE)

A launchpad to adulthood for young adults with IDD (ages 16–21)

Transition programs are services and supports that help young people with IDD move from child-centered systems (education, juvenile services, child welfare, etc.) into adult systems – working, health, social, and community life. For people with IDD, these transitions are especially critical. Young people often “age out” of school-based services, losing support unless there is planning.

TREE helps young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), many also managing mental health needs, transition to a more independent life by building skills, confidence, and a strong support network. We combine academics, job training, independent living skills, and therapeutic services so young adults with IDD can complete high school, explore post-secondary options, find meaningful work, and participate fully in their communities.

What makes TREE different

  • Integrated support: Education, employment readiness, life skills training, and therapy all delivered together, not in silos.
  • Real-world practice: Hands-on learning through on-site businesses and volunteer placements with local partners.
  • Personalized goals: Dedicated staff align support with each participant’s strengths and post-secondary goals, including high school graduation requirements when needed.
  • Strengths-first approach: We focus on independence, self-advocacy, and community belonging.

What participants gain

  • Independent living skills: Budgeting, shopping and meal planning and nutrition, apartment basics, and navigating public transportation.
  • Work readiness: Workplace expectations, time management, interviewing, and on-the-job communication.
  • Social & emotional skills: Relationship building, self-regulation, and interpersonal communication.
  • Therapeutic support: Licensed professionals address mental health and behavioral needs to reduce barriers to success.
