COVID-19: Tennyson Update 3/13/2020

March 13, 2020 Dear Friends of Tennyson Center for Children,

As our state responds to the COVID-19 outbreak, I am sure that you are as concerned about our kids as we are, so I wanted to reach out and let you know how Tennyson Center is addressing the situation.

We wake up every day committed to making sure that our children and families heal from trauma, and that does not change at all in light of the current public health crisis. Tennyson will remain completely operational and continue to provide educational and therapeutic services to our children and families. During this challenging time, we know that our children and families may be experiencing heightened anxiety and escalating trauma. We are here for them and will continue to support them in any way possible.

You are the reason hundreds of Colorado’s children receive the services they need to heal from childhood neglect and abuse. The impact of your support over the years is exceptional and because of our community’s commitment to Colorado’s children our organization can respond to this outbreak with the highest standard of professionalism and expertise, which helps children continue to thrive.

Our incredible on-campus staff and clinicians will continue to provide round-the-clock treatment and will continue education on-campus for residential children. For students living off campus, we have arranged for distance learning to take the place of learning in the classroom for the time being. Currently, we plan to resume on-campus education on April 6 based on how other school districts are responding. We are working with other community resources to ensure that the needs of our kids and families are being met.

Our community-based clinicians have extensive options at their disposal for conducting sessions with families via video to make sure that family needs continue to be met during this time.

Thank you for standing with us over the years and continuing to support our mission as we provide necessary care to Colorado’s most at-risk children. Tennyson Center for Children’s top priority is to create a safe and calm environment for all our children, no matter what.

Tennyson is taking measures that require extraordinary effort and extraordinary support. If you are looking for ways to support us during this time, please consider renewing your online contribution or making a gift at tennysoncenter.org/donate.

These will be challenging times but because of your continued generosity towards children who experienced neglect and abuse we are prepared to do what is best for Tennyson’s kids.
